Newberry Child Care

Located in the heart of Downtown Eugene, Newberry Child Care offers the ideal environment for a quality preschool program.

5-Star QRIS Rated and State Certified Program

Newberry Child Care (NCC) boasts a state-certified Preschool & Pre-K curriculum which is open to the public and located inside the Downtown Athletic Club. Our school provides families an opportunity to receive affordable education in an environment designed to nurture every child’s emotional, social, creative and intellectual development.

Newberry has achieved a 5-Star rating from Oregon’s Quality Rating and Improvement System (QRIS). This top quality rating means we meet the highest evaluation standards that support quality early learning for all children.

Newberry Child Care offers full-time and part-time care. Enrollment is open to DAC members as well as non-members. The Center is open weekdays from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.

We are a peanut-free school. Please do not send items in your child’s lunch with peanuts, peanut butter or any other item with peanut products in them.

Curriculum
We believe that preschool-age children learn largely through play. Activities such as art projects, games, song and movement expand their knowledge and understanding of the world while developing hand-eye coordination, and enhancing memory skills and attention span. Through social interaction, children learn to solve problems, develop self-help skills, make decisions, get along with others, cooperate, negotiate and take turns. The focus of our curriculum is to promote your child’s intellectual and physical development.
Classrooms
Every child grows and develops at a different rate. NCC has two separate classrooms to accommodate the growth and development of each child. Our Preschool classroom teacher-to-child ratio is 1 to 5. Our Pre-K classroom ratio is 1 to 10.
Educators
NCC teachers and support staff are passionate about your child’s happiness and education and provide a safe, nurturing environment that cultivates learning. Our experienced staff is educated in early childhood development and participate in continuing education each year. They have been carefully screened and have certifications in First Aid and CPR.
Parent Participation
Parents are welcome to drop in and visit any time of the day. We encourage participation in field trips, projects, lunch time and regular activities.
Field Trips

Our central location provides the opportunity to take advantage of regular outings. We visit the library weekly for story time and other activities the library offers. Weather permitting, we also take carefully supervised walks and field trips to local parks and downtown locations.

Facilities

NCC, in affiliation with the DAC, provides access to many of the Club’s state-of-the-art facilities including the gymnasium, swimming pool, racquetball courts, dance studios and more.

The DAC’s gym, located in the same building as NCC, is reserved exclusively for the Center for two hours twice a day. The gym is transformed into an indoor playground equipped with play structures, balls and toys designed for gross motor development. Gym time gives children a traditional recess atmosphere where they can run, ride bikes and play year-round.

Yoga, Swim Lessons and Creative Movement

NCC offers several child development activities outside the classroom throughout the week.

Yoga – Mondays
Yoga can play an essential part of one’s life and starting at a young age is key to building healthy habits. Instructor Liz Martin teaches children with a mix of silly and serious as she moves through the poses. The mind-body connection is important and this yoga class is the first step in helping kids recognize that connection and start learning to “calm the mind.”

Swim – Tuesdays and Fridays
The DAC’s warm water fitness pool provides an ideal environment for children to learn the basics of swimming and enjoy movement in the water in a safe environment. NCC has a custom-designed Intro to Swimming class taught by DAC swim instructors.

Creative Movement – Thursdays
Taught by an instructor from the Eugene Ballet Academy, this class focuses on spatial awareness, movement comfort, basic rhythm, coordination and locomotor skills. Creative Movement exposes children to the art of creative dance in a nurturing and inspiring environment.

Enrollment
All enrollment paperwork, including immunization forms, must be filled out prior to your child’s first day of school. If the preschool is filled to capacity, a waiting list will be established. DAC members are given first priority for available spaces. See the Preschool Enrollment Form to get started.
